Global Power Supply Completes Delivery of 3MW MTU Data Center in Denver.
Global Power Supply is proud to announce that it has recently completed the delivery of a new MTU 3000kW standby diesel generator to a major data center owner/operator in the Denver area.
Rob Hansen, Director of GPS’s Mission Critical Facilities Division, who note “Denver is always an exciting place to ship a generator set. In addition to the well known weather challenges you face there at certain times of the year, you also have the altitude factor. The air up there is thinner, and a generator reacts to thin air about the same way a human does; you don’t quite get the same performance at 5600 feet that you do at sea level. It’s important to ask the right questions when you’re scoping high altitude projects since customers aren’t always unaware that some engines have a significant derate once they get up to a certain elevation. Sometimes you need to oversize your genset to end up with the right amount of power once the derate is factored in.”
The work began back in May of 2015 when GPS was awarded the project based on a design-build quotation which included the genset, custom enclosures, freight and logistics, startup and commissioning, onsite assembly, and other site services. GPS worked closely with the customer and installing contractors through a detailed submittals review process, tweaking the design throughout based on input of all parties.
Scott Feinberg, GPS’s Director of Production, was responsible for project management. “Delivery was tricky. FAA approval was required for off load based on the sites proximity to local air traffic and the height of the crane. Because of recent similar deliveries GPS utilized the same experienced drivers for delivery and it went perfectly.” recalled Mr. Feinberg.
