Custom Generator Enclosures & Fuel Tanks
GPS offers customized generator enclosures and fuel tanks to suit your power supply needs.
GPS Custom Enclosures
Working with fabricators from all over the country to provide everything from weather protection to sound attenuation, a generator enclosure acts as a protective barrier for generators that are being housed outdoors, or outside of their facility. Specifying the best enclosure for a standby power system is important to both short-term operation and long-term reliability of the system.
Generators of all shapes and sizes can be housed in an outdoor enclosure, providing security, ventilation, and protection. As emergency standby generators become more vital to the continuation of business, so too have custom generator set enclosures that are properly designed to fit your specific needs. The overall cost and ease of installation will depend on the physical location of all elements of the system including: the generator set, fuel tanks and any accessories. There are several types of enclosures available including weather protective, sound attuning, and walk-in.
Location and Environment
The location of your custom enclosure should be level, well drained and secure from flooding, fire, ice, and vandalism. In addition, the National Electrical Code (NEC) requires that all outdoor generators include an inside or an outside service disconnect, either at the generator or at the point where the generator feeder enters the building. It’s important to keep your generator location away from open buildings, combustible material or building ventilation inlets.
A custom generator enclosure is designed and engineered to provide proper airflow and is manufactured with quality materials to provide complete protection for the system. A custom built enclosure will house and protect not only the genset, but the fuel tanks as well.
GPS Fuel Tanks
The Fuel Tank is the part of the engine system in which the fuel is stored and propelled or released into an engine. Integrated fuel tanks bring added security and reduce the footprint of your generator installation. Integrated fuel tanks protect fuel lines and filler connections within the enclosure for better security and provides a very compact installation. Be sure to allow sufficient clearance around the enclosure to allow fuel trucks to access the enclosure, and consult with local authorities regarding fuel tank codes.
Design and Installation
The design elements of your custom generator enclosure will depend on the amount of weather protection required at your installation site. The outer surfaces of the enclosure are usually made of aluminum or steel barriers, primed. The paint needs to be a quality and thickness to retain gloss and resist minor impacts or corrosion due to salt spray, humidity, and water in accordance with appropriate ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) standards. Outdoor generator enclosures are available with enhanced strength that resists wind speeds of over 150 miles per hour. Select an enclosure with adequate flow-through ventilation that keeps temperatures in the optimum operating range.
